KNIGHTS CLOSE FOODBANK SUPPORTED BY THE SAFARI JUMBLE SALE

Members of the WAG Committee today visited Knights Close Foodbank, Top Valley, and presented them with £118.50 raised by the Safari Jumble Sale held on 5th September.

Photo shows Nigel Webster, the Foodbank Manager, together with volunteer Rosie Cherry receiving the donation from Committee members Pat Clark and Sue Jablonskas.

The amount collected included the stall Registration Donations and additional donations from some stall holders.

A BIG THANK YOU to everyone who supported the event and therefore contributed to this amount. Nigel gave the WAG Committee members a tour of the very impressive Foodbank set-up and explained that in the previous year 50,000 meals had been handed out to local people/families.

Those receiving assistance from the foodbank are referred from a number of services or they may self-refer. There is no walk-in facility to ensure help goes to those who most need it.

Additionally, the foodbank can refer recipients to other services to assist those in need.

Nigel gave us a copy of the leaflet included in each food parcel as this includes the contact details of a number of help services. To view the leaflet click here.

The Foodbank is open Tuesday and Thursday from 1pm to 3pm and Saturday from 10am to 12 noon.

The Foodbank is grateful for all donations they receive, either food or monetary. They do an amazing job and help so many people when they need it most.

At the moment they would particularly appreciate donations of long life fruit juice, UHT Milk, tinned rice pudding, tinned potatoes and toiletries, including nappies and sanitary products.

IN LOVING MEMORY OF TERRY YOUNG

Today we said a sad farewell to a true and loyal friend, a good neighbour and valued colleague.

Remembering Terry Young

From the WAG Community

29th June 2021

REMEMBERING TERRY YOUNG

WAG was very sad to hear that Terry died on 29th June 2021 after a long period of ill health.

Terry was an active member of the WAG Committee and generously hosted the Committee meetings in his own home for many years.

Terry was very kind, caring and passionate about his community. He was a very well-liked and respected member in Top Valley Gardens area and had a lovely bubbly, jokey character, matched by a cheeky smile and twinkling eyes.

Terry loved a good chat and debate! Some of you may have seen this yourself at WAG’s Residents’ meetings.

WAG sends sympathy and love to Terry’s family and friends at this difficult time.

We will miss you Terry.

SANTA MADE A SURPRISE VISIT TO WARREN PRIMARY TODAY

Santa usually makes an appearance at WAG’s Christmas Lights switch on event but unfortunately this couldn’t take place this year.

The children usually meet Santa in his grotto after the light switch-on. Rather than disappoint them he arrived at the school with a gift for every child in the school.

All the children (and the staff!) were very excited to see Santa

Santa needed help to carry all the gifts to Warren Primary.

Santa and his helpers were met by Headteacher Paul Tibble before delivering the gifts to the classrooms.

SANTA SURPRISES SENIOR RESIDENTS

Santa was sad to hear that WAG’s Christmas Afternoon Tea for senior residents couldn’t take place this year, due to COVID-19 restrictions, as he enjoyed meeting so many of them last year.

Santa hopes the senior residents enjoyed his visit, and liked their gifts, and that he brought some early festive joy and happiness

THE CHRISTMAS TREE HAS ARRIVED

WAG's Christmas Tree has been installed on Bewcastle Road and awaits the lights being installed and switched on.

If you see the lights on, take a photo and share with everyone to help spread some festive cheer.

'Thank you' to the GBC staff who are working hard to ensure all the lights are installed and working in the WAG area.

IT'S BEGINNING TO LOOK LIKE CHRISTMAS

Christmas Tree on Bewcastle Road

WAG’s Annual Christmas Lights are being installed and WAG’s Christmas Tree and Lights will soon be up on Bewcastle Road.

WAG thanks our 2 Nottinghamshire County Councillors, Pauline Allan and Michael Payne, for their very generous grants towards the costs of this year’s Christmas activities.

The remaining balance is being funded from WAG’s budget made up of resident donations and other fund-raising activities throughout the year. Thanks to everyone who has contributed.

Due to lockdown restrictions we can’t hold the usual switch-on event with choirs and other activities.

This year Gedling Borough Council will arrange a ‘soft switch-on’ of the lights once installed.

Despite the restrictions, WAG is planning other ways to spread some Christmas cheer to residents, whilst ensuring that everything we do is Covid safe. We’ll post more once these have taken place.
